Pisolino is an Italian word meaning nap. There is depth to this sofa that make it perfect for sitting or lying down to relax. Users are drawn to a dream world in no time. That is why we named it Pisolino. The charming sofa with one armrest will brighten and modernize the room.
- Question 1Please describe your company and what makes your furniture special.
- President Hirata:
- We specialize in making chairs in the hope of creating family time around the dining table on comfortable chairs. We consider it important to offer a chair that can be easily coordinated with the room interior. Fundamentally, we handle all furniture making processes, steps 1 to 10, ourselves, and we are committed to responding to all orders, however difficult they may be, with our technology and skill. We assign a person for each step of the furniture manufacturing process. After mastering one step, the individual moves on to the next step. Being responsible for each section, our craftsmen become skilled artisans who can handle all steps with great skill.
- Question 2What was your honest thought when first asked to make “Cat Furniture”?
- Furukawa:
- “What? Cat furniture?” was my honest thought (laugh). But making furniture that is comfortable and durable is the same for people, so I thought it could be done. Mr. Hirata commented that he has people assigned to each step. When we began making cat furniture, craftsmen each step were boggled. I’m relieved that we were able to create cat furniture combining skills of all our craftsmen.
- Question 3What are you committed to when making cat furniture?
- Furukawa
- The highlight of this furniture is that there is only one armrest. We put particular effort in creating this soft curve. To make the curve possible, we had to change the shape of the diagonal leg frame with the left front leg sticking out. Because cat furniture is smaller, creating this curve was difficult; but this is the feature of the original furniture so we were determined to reproduce it.
- President Hirata:
- We are also particular about the fabric we use and we do our own fitting. For this cat furniture we use fabric that is not just red. We made it with 3 different shades of red, which gives it a unique impression. The design itself is feminine, but the coarse texture of fabric makes it a more unisex that can be selected by both men and women.
- Question 4What is your view of the future?
- President Hirata:
- I let young people take over at an early stage (laugh). Furukawa who was in charge of the cat furniture, is also a younger member of our team, but he has skill and speed. I welcome young people into the company to liven up Okawa. Okawa City is one of very few Japanese furniture production sites. I hope to make use of the Okawa furniture brand that was built by artisans and polish it into an even greater brand.
